Since we celebrated Pentecost, the Holy Spirit is really doing something here at St. Edwards. Last weekend, we had or second youth group gathering. Three of the Blue Nuns also showed up. We spent time just hanging out and eating pizza followed by yours truly attempting to prove the existence of God via St. Thomas' five ways. After the minds of the children of God were illumined, we went outside to play ultimate frisbee with the blue nuns and our seminarian Julian. One of the blue nuns, in full habit of course, went up for the frisbee and got her legs taken out from underneath her by a diving opponent. However, the coolest thing was that she came down with the frisbee! It could have made the NFL highlight reel. It is exciting to see how our youth group is really taking off.
On a totally different note, this Sunday is Trinity Sunday. It is by far the most difficult Sunday to preach on given the ease one can fall into heresy when we speak of the Trinity. Officially, the teaching of the Church is that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are all God yet there are not three gods but one God. As a mystery of faith, our reason cannot comprehend this but perhaps our hearts can intuit it's truth. Just because God is one doesn't mean that God is alone or lonely. God can be an eternally loving God because love between the Father, Son and Holy Spirit had no beginning and has no end. God did not create love - it is part of His very essence. And when we live in love, we live in God.
