In the Gospel today, people wonder is there a reason why earthquakes, tsunamis, and tornadoes strike certain people or nations? Was there some sin that the people in that area committed that incurred the wrath of God?
Our annual Food Drive will take place March 23/24 in which bags will be distributed. Please take a bag and return the following weekend, March 30/31. Suggested donations are listed on the bags. Our donations will be delivered to the Bowie Food Pantry.
There is a strange phrase in the Gospel today that occurs as Peter, James and John are witnessing the transfiguration of Christ on the Mountain: “And behold, two men were conversing with Him, Moses and Elijah who appeared in glory and spoke of His exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem.”
The Gospel today advises that we get rid of the wooden beam in our own eye before we try to pick out the splinter in our brother's eye. We should not first focus on other people's sins but upon our own.
We will be starting our crafting workshops for our 2019 Christmas Market on Thursday, March 7th, at 6:30-8:30 in Classroom 6. Please join us and bring your ideas.
All those in High School are welcome to join us for “Service/Corporal Works of Mercy” on Sunday, March 3rd, from 6:30-8:30pm in the hall. We’ll be having sandwiches and putting together prizes for the residents at the upcoming visit to the nursing home
In a few weeks St. Edward’s will again support our neighbor, Village Baptist Church, in their Warm Nights ministry to the homeless. On Wednesday, March 13, we will prepare an evening meal for a group of about 30 homeless people who are being sheltered there for a week. We are asking for 5 volunteers from St. Edward’s to assist in preparing casseroles for the evening meal and several more to help prepare a hot breakfast on Sunday, morning March 17th. All materials will be purchased for you; you need only cook and deliver the prepared evening/morning meal to Village Baptist. If you would like to participate in this ministry, please contact Pam Buzzerd at 301 249-1957 or Tim Looney at 301 805-1352 for more information.
It will soon be Lent and Stations. We will again have 3 soup suppers before the 7:30 Stations of the Cross on the following Fridays: March 15, March 29 and April 12. If you would like to make a meatless soup and bring it to one of the soup suppers, please sign up. Sign-up sheets will be out in the East entrance of the church on March 2-3 and March 9-10, for all 3 suppers. We will need your name, phone number or e-mail address and the kind of soup you will be making.
Last weekend, seminarian Danny Baxter spoke of his own vocation to the priesthood. We learned how the Annual Appeal makes it possible for guys like Danny and our summer seminarian Christian Huebner to receive six years of seminary formation in addition to providing them with food and housing.
